RPS to update professional standards for hospital pharmacy

RPS Building in London

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) is updating its professional standards for hospital pharmacy services.

The standards, last reviewed and updated in 2014, provide a framework for how chief pharmacists and directors of pharmacy and their teams can improve services and continue delivering quality patient care. The 2014 updates included greater emphasis on the need for patient feedback, and on organisational transparency.

Although the standards are primarily intended for pharmacists working in hospital services, they are also relevant to those working in acute, mental health, private, community service, prison, hospice and ambulance settings.

Members wishing to get involved in updating the standards can join the external reference group — email Rebecca Braybrooks at: rebecca.braybrooks@rpharms.com to register interest.

The external reference group will be able to comment on draft updates to the standards. Regular webinars, offering progress reports on the updates, will also be available.

The new update should be completed by the end of 2017.
