Sunayana Shah, a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), has been appointed chair of the Society’s newly formed Industrial Pharmacy Advisory Group (IPAG), which replaces the Industrial Pharmacy Forum as of 2021.

IPAG will advise the Society’s national pharmacy boards on matters related to industrial pharmacy and pharmaceutical science. It will also support the RPS’s work in industry, including around the development, implementation and dissemination of professional standards.

Shah has experience of community pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry. She has previously worked as head of regulatory and safety policy at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), in which part of her role involved advising UK and EU government officials on international regulatory policy matters, including Brexit.

“As a consultative group, we hope to provide expert opinions and evidence-based leadership to inform RPS policy decisions and advice to government and other stakeholders,” Shah said, adding that she was looking forward to working closely with the RPS’s chief scientist, Gino Martini, and the RPS policy teams.

Martini offered his congratulations to Shah, adding that the Society is “delighted to have someone who brings a huge wealth of experience that can help the RPS.

“Having timely access to an empowered network of experts on the IPAG with varied backgrounds, from pharmaceutical scientists to pharmacists specialising in medical, regulatory, safety and manufacturing, is a real asset, and I look forward to working with her.”
