President of The Royal Pharmaceutical Society
The beginning of a new chapter for The Pharmaceutical Journal
For the past 170 years The Pharmaceutical Journal has been the pre-eminent professional publication for pharmacists. As the official journal of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, it has been at the forefront of developments in pharmacy practice. This has never been more important for our profession, which has patient care and medicines safety at its core.
Pharmacists continue to face professional challenges, squeezed budgets and ever increasing workplace pressures. And they expect these concerns — and their aspirations — to be reflected in the pages of The Journal if it is to remain relevant.
Although the printed version of The Pharmaceutical Journal is extremely valuable to RPS members, who have come to rely on receiving it each week, it is also clear that people are accessing the publication through various digital media as well.
But rapid changes in technology mean that The Pharmaceutical Journal’s website has been in need of redevelopment, which is why the RPS has invested in its journal to make it a best-in-class product both in print and online.
I am very excited by the new format, the first edition of which you are reading now. Moreover, I am looking forward to Society members from all parts of the profession engaging with the new digital platform — the imminent www.pharmaceutical-journal.com — and using it to keep up to date and as an inspiration for their professional development.
I have no doubt The Pharmaceutical Journal will be a publication of which members can be rightly proud.
