Tuesday 2 December 2014: Pharmacist Reena Barai has been announced as the winner of the ‘I Love My Pharmacist’ competition organised by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) in collaboration with IPC Media and Woman’s Weekly magazine.

Commenting on her achievement, Barai said: “Ironically, I grew up aspiring to be the ‘best pharmacist’ because I wanted to follow in my father’s footsteps and in my eyes he was ‘the best’. I wouldn’t be celebrating this achievement if it wasn’t for him, my supportive family, my hard-working staff, my fabulous friends, my encouraging colleagues and most of all, my loyal customers.

“This win is a fitting tribute to the late Mr Blake who, along with his wife Clare, nominated me for this competition. Pharmacists and their staff really are the unsung heroes of the high street and the NHS. This competition has hopefully shone some light on the important role every pharmacy plays in their local community.”

RPS president Ash Soni said: “I’m delighted for Reena and that the competition attracted entries of such a high standard. We aimed to recognise the fantastic work that community pharmacists do up and down the country and I think with Woman’s Weekly we have achieved that. Reena is a shining example of how pharmacists are a trusted, focal point for their community.”
