Pharmaceutical science advisory panel looking to co-opt RPS members

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s (RPS) Pharmaceutical Science Expert Advisory Panel (PSEAP) is looking to co-opt RPS members from community or hospital pharmacy to work alongside one of its working groups.

The PSEAP, which was created in September 2010, is made up of 18 representatives from academic, industrial, regulatory, hospital and community pharmacy sectors and covers England, Scotland and Wales. In May 2014 the PSEAP developed the ‘New Medicines, Better Use of Medicines’ guide, which summarises the role of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists in the development and use of medicines. The RPS is leading on four of the recommendations made in the guide, driven forward by working groups composed of individuals from the PSEAP.

The working group leading the fifth recommendation – ‘Increasing the evidence base for pharmacy’ – wants to co-opt RPS members to complement its current expertise. Desirable requirements for the role include being able to demonstrate understanding of the importance of research for the future development of pharmacy practice and involvement in pharmacy or health service research.

Members co-opted onto the group will be expected to make a time commitment of no more than two hours a month and will be appointed, on a voluntary basis, for the life of the ‘Increasing the evidence base for pharmacy’ working group.
