Profits for high street retailer Superdrug more than doubled in 2015, according to official figures published on 5 July 2016.

The company, which operates just over 200 pharmacies, reported an operating profit for the year ending December 2015 of £62.2m – an increase of 62.4% from the operating profits of £38.3m for 2014. Revenue increased by 5.4% in 2015.

Online sales rose by more than 50% in 2015, while its online doctor service, which dispenses products directly to customers’ homes or nearby stores, and its optician service both performed well, the company says.

The company’s instore health services also grew in 2015 — travel vaccinations became available in 41 stores and its number of nurse-run clinics increased to 24.

Seven new stores opened during 2015 as Superdrug’s estate expanded, with more openings promised for 2016. Superdrug also opened its second ‘well-being’ store in 2015, with a focus on health and fitness.

Peter Macnab, chief executive officer of Superdrug’s parent company, AS Watson Health & Beauty UK, says the company’s financial performance in 2015 was “strong”.
