It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we report the passing of our dear friend and colleague Emily Howells (née Hills).
Emily graduated from the University of Brighton with a first class Master of Pharmacy degree in 2011. It was during her second year at Brighton that Emily met the love of her life and fellow pharmacist, Dave.
She started her career as a preregistration pharmacist at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. After qualifying in 2012, Emily worked as a rotational pharmacist before starting a post in Medicines Information and Education and Training at Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Guildford. It was during her time at Guildford that Dave and Emily set up their first home in West Sussex.
Clinical pharmacy was always Emily’s passion and her career path changed in 2015 when she was appointed senior clinical pharmacist with the Proactive Care Team at Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust.
Emily thrived in her role, working closely with GPs, community nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, coordinators and mental health practitioners, as well as many other healthcare professionals across primary and secondary care.
It was here that Emily achieved a distinction in her postgraduate diploma in general pharmacy pactice with Medway School of Pharmacy.
Emily’s focus was to provide domiciliary clinical pharmacy services to patients across Bognor Regis and Chichester. She displayed overwhelming compassion to all of her patients and enabled them to remain independent in their own homes. Emily brought not only clinical excellence but eternal optimism, positivity and an amazing sense of fun to our team — we will not be the same without her.
In addition to her outstanding academic and professional achievements, Emily was a wonderful wife and amazing mother to her beautiful children, Amelia and Arlo.
Emily passed away on 30 July 2019 at St Wilfred’s Hospice, Bosham, in the arms of her husband Dave.
