Tribute: Harold James Hart

Harold was brought up on Canvey Island, Essex. He went to Southend High School for Boys and thence to the Square, from where he graduated with a BPharm. After National Service, he returned to Canvey and completed his practical training with N. Quenby Ltd, who then owned two pharmacies on the island. He remained with them and their successor companies until retirement, mostly managing the pharmacy at 171 Long Road. His former patients remember him as a kind man, who had time for everyone.

He was well known on Canvey as a special, caring person. He’d been involved with local organisations all his life, starting with the Scouts and the Observer Corps, and going on to take every possible position within St Nicholas Church.

He was a founding member of a rotary club on the island and was president twice, the last time in 2000/2001.

A devoted family man, he was married to Christine, another islander, for almost 60 years. They had two children and six grandchildren.

As a long-time colleague, Carol and I send our condolences to Chris, Andrea, Richard and the grandchildren.
