Harry was born near Barnsley in 1930 and won a scholarship to Bradford Grammar School in the 1940s. He studied pharmacy at the University of Bradford and qualified as a pharmacist in the early 1950s.
Harry then spent three years serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps where he was stationed in Aldershot and in Germany.
After leaving the army, Harry moved to West Africa where he worked for May & Baker and subsequently for William R Warner. While based in Lagos, Nigeria, he travelled extensively around that region as part of his work.
In 1962, Harry returned to the UK where he started work for Harry S Allen near Rotherham. In 1970 — and now married with a family — Harry relocated to Bridlington, East Yorkshire, where he worked for Selles Dispensing Chemists for more than 25 years. After retirement, he continued with occasional locum work into his early 70s.
Outside work, Harry was a keen cricketer, yachtsman, artist, golfer, cyclist and walker. He is survived by his widow, four children and six grandchildren.
Harry died peacefully at home with his family on 21 November 2015 following a short illness. He was 84 years old.
