Ravi Sharma appointed RPS director for England

Ravi Sharma has been appointed as the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s (RPS’s) director for England.

Sharma, currently national clinical lead in clinical pharmacy and genomics at NHS England and a senior GP pharmacist, will take up the post in November 2018.

“I am really looking forward to working as part of a passionate and driven team in order to deliver the mission of the RPS — putting pharmacy at the forefront of healthcare,” he said. “I have always been passionate about ensuring that patient care remains at the forefront of the profession. The RPS is a true embodiment of that testament and I am looking forward to working alongside members and other organisations to help ensure a successful and vibrant future for the profession.”

Welcoming Sharma to the RPS, Sandra Gidley, chair of the English Pharmacy Board, said that he “‘walks the walk’ as well as he ‘talks the talk’ about how our profession can work in an integrated way across sector boundaries, and with members of the multidisciplinary team.

“Ravi is exactly the right person to lead and develop opportunities for the profession to improve the lives of patients and the public, and I am delighted we will be working together on this,” she said.

Sharma takes over the role from Robbie Turner, who has taken up the new role of director of pharmacy and member experience at the Society.
