RPS issues statement after Brexit vote

The Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) has released a statement saying that it will do all it can to ensure that pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists from all countries continue to feel welcome in the RPS, as well as the country’s pharmacies, universities, hospitals, pharmaceutical industry and other healthcare settings.

This statement comes after the UK voted to leave the European Union on 23 June 2016, sparking concerns about the future of healthcare and scientific research in this country. In the statement, the RPS emphasises to its members that it will continue to work constructively and collaboratively with its international partners, within and outside the EU, on areas such as medicines safety and antibiotic resistance.

“The RPS remains a national organisation with a global outlook,” it says. “We will continue to work with partners both within and outside of the European Union to make sure we remain a leading nation for innovation in pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical science.

“The RPS benefits enormously from a talented and diverse group of employees and elected members. We have a growing international membership and our publishing business, Pharmaceutical Press, has a global reputation and reach.

“The RPS is proud to provide leadership, development and support to a diverse community of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists and this will not change,” it adds.

The Society also highlights in the statement that it will be hosting the 78th FIP World Congress of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in Glasgow in 2018.
